Cities

The following pages show cities "proper" points (>90m) from 1.000 years before Christ (B.C.) to 2020. Cities can be defined as:

Cities proper  - within city limits, the single political jurisdiction which contains the historical city centre. Definiton used in almost all lists in this site except the "Metro Cities" one.

Urban agglomeration - conurbation of human settlements with high population density and infrastructure of built environment.

Metropolitan Area -  is a region consisting of a densely populated urban core and its less-populated surrounding territories, sharing industry, infrastructure, and housing. A metro area usually comprises multiple jurisdictions and municipalities. Metropolitan areas include one or more urban areas, as well as satellite cities, towns and intervening rural areas that are socioeconomically tied to the urban core, typically measured by commuting patterns.
